My pet ducks

These are my pet ducks, Mamma and Big boy. We were given them a couple mths ago because they were heading for the freezer and i needed something to fill the pen now that the chickens were gone. They were so nervous of me at first and over time i have gained their trust and can feed them out of my hand and even get the odd pet in. The female, Mamma, has such a personality! She is so curious and makes this little song when she is excited or disturbed. I have taken up digging worms for them and Mamma comes running over and is eagerly awaiting a worm to pop up out of the soil and she sings her song and grabs 'em. Sometimes she is right on top of my trowl that i can't even dig. Endless entertainment! To think these birds have such personalities and emotions. We must be kind to all creatures!

Thanksgiving Market

Last wk. my mom (soulybarb) flew from Ontario to sister Paula's place in White Rock. They drove here to Kelowna to stay with me. Paula had a tree conference downtown for the first few days while me and mom went for walks, shopped and took Keyna to the dog park. We cooked a huge feast for thanksgiving with potatoes & squash from my garden, the turkey from the nieghbours and pumpkin pie square from baked pumpkin. YUM!!!!! The highlight of the wk. was having a stall at the farmers market. we had all 3 of our stuff, jewllery, tea cozys, beanies, arm warmers, scarves, eco pads ect. We such a great day together besides the -6C weather we had to set up in! Great touque weather! Thank you mom and Paula for coming and spending such a special time together. Happy Thanks giving!!!!!!!!!!

Forest Fires

It has been a very hot and dry summer here in the Okanagan Valley. For the last couple weeks there have been raging forest fires. One night just before sunset i went out and saw this huge billowing cloud rising into the sky. I was in awe for i have never seen anything like this before so i had to take photos. The amazing thing is that the next day we had a much needed rain that settled the fires slightly.

West Coast Adventure

I recently toured the west coast from Vancouver BC to Nth California with my mom, dad and sister Paula. We rented a motor home and camped at state parks along the way. It was so nice to all be together. Our parents flew from there farm in Ont. and met us in Vancouver. Hwy. 101 is so beautiful following the coast with all its sea stacks and endless beaches. The best part was being with my family, we had alot of laughs and a great time.

Life in OZ

I lived in Australia for 7yrs. and just moved back to Canada last yr. I lived on a 40ft. sailboat in Nth. Queensland sailing the Great Barrier Reef. It was a dream life!
I made my crafts all wk while out sailing and came in on the wkend to sell my creations at the local markets. We sailed with the dolphins, sea turtles and the humpback whales on their migration up and down the coast.
I grew up on a farm so the water world was all new to me but i fell in love with it at once. I love getting away from it all and the sailboat was just that. Pull anchor and off into the sunset!
My family came to visit a couple of times. It was so nice to fullfill my dads dream of sailing (i got to tell him what to do, like pull that anchor, hoist the sail!) Oz is a very special place and i miss it but am so glad to be close to my family now.
This is a photo of Paula and me enjoying a glass of wine watching the sunset on the deck of the sailboat.

In Movie "Australia"

When I was in Australia last year there was the movie Australia being filmed near where i was living on my sailboat. I went to be an extra and got hired as long as i cut my hair short. I was on set for about a mth. as a Military Service Woman.
Then one day on set the director, Baz came to me and asked me to sit in this office and say a line. Well, was i nervous! I just thought i was going to be some extra in the back ground running around. I had to do 3 takes since my mind went blank. My line was "I'm getting a signal from Mission Island." This is when the Japanese were coming to Oz to bomb during the WW2. Nicole Kidman was on set and told me i did a good job. My name is in the credits as well!
It was such an amazing experience and one i never imagined. It is amazing what life brings to you when you are open to it. I have always been one to go with the flow. I have travelled alot so with that comes many experiences. There is a world of opportunities you just have to go for it and have faith in yourself that anything is possible.
This is a photo of me (middle, tallest with nurse bag) and the girls on set.

Felted Dog Fur

After brushing my beautiful dog Keyna there is alot of hair! I have heard of people making sweaters from their dog hair so I spun some of her hair on my spinning wheel. It is not the easiest fibre to spin so I decided to felt it.
So now I offer to take customers animal fur, felt it and make a small to large pouch or pures for them depending on the amount of fur they have and how much they want to spend.
This picture is a sample of what I have made from Keyna's fur from 3-4 brushings. I add a little colored sheeps wool and a sparkle of angelina.
Orders are welcomed! Just convo us and get brushing your dog!

Naturally Spun Sisters Treasures

Kelowna Farmers Market

The Naturally Spun Sisters did our first market of the year together. We had a great stall location and display. It rained for about 20 mins, but the sun came out after that! We sold out of our eco pads and did some great networking. Met a fellow spinner and might be getting some alpca wool. Also had some interested clients for felting their own dogs hair into pouches/bags.

Our Beloved Pets!!!

I have an amazing dog named Keyna. She is 11mths old today! She is husky, german sheppard, wolf and is so wise for her age. I feel so blessed to have her as my friend. We take her to the local dog park everyday and she loves it. Her favorite thing to do is to play with other dogs. She tries to get them to chase her by stealing their balls or getting a stick and pushing into them. We are living on a ranch right now so she is so lucky to run around heaps.
Paula has a cat named Pelee which she rescued off Pelee Island in Lake Erie in Ontario Canada while working at an eco camp and learning centre for kids. She did restoration projects around the island and counted endangered species as well. Pelee now lives in White Rock BC. She is a tabi cat (orange) with a short tail because one day she came home after a horrid accident with the top half of her tail missing! She is way too friendly and tries to go into every neighbours house and we assume she got a door shut on her tail. She is more like a dog by following us around, playing in water and is very vocal making a whole repertoire of noises. She is quite the cat!
Our parents have 2 chihuahuas, brother and sister, Spike and Teenie. They are 15 years old! They are such a part of the family and are so entertaining as small dogs can be. Teenie loves cheerios and Spike like crickets, Yum? They still live on our family farm back in Ontario. What farm dogs?! This is a picture of Spike and Teenie keeping warm by the wood stove.

Check out our shop! NATURALLYSPUNSISTERS.ETSY.COM

Since being back from Australia I have not been able to do any markets to sell my crafts so opening a shop on line was the thing to do. My younger sister and me have always been extremely close like soul mates you might say. She is the smart one ( with computers that is) so she helps me navigate through all the computer stuff. I have been the, well, i guess the more adventurous one by travelling the world and learning many crafts from different countries. So putting that together and recently opening our shop together on etsy just came naturally. We have always inspired each other from a very young age and besides being creative with someone else is way more fun. This is a picture of my stall in Australia.

Check it out: NATURALLYSPUNSISTERS.ETSY.COM

We spin, felt, crochet, sew and have lots of fun!
